Demagogue

After watching the Senate confirmation hearings of Robert Gates, Slate.com's Fred Kaplan writes:

I've been watching defense secretaries in confirmation hearings for 30 years, off and on, but I don't think I've seen any perform more forthrightly than Gates did this morning.

Kaplan never really says Gates will make a good defense secretary, but Kaplan makes a good case that candor is something this administration could use a lot more of.
