Academic Freedom at Columbia

Bowmanguy and I had a bit of a dialogue recently about the controversy that has raged this academic year at Columbia University, in which professors have been accused of anti-Semitism and of harrassing students who tried to present opposing views on the Middle East.

Folks in the New York area who are interested might want to attend this year's Cardozo Lecture at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. The ABCNY is an outstanding organization and very highly regarded, which enables it to attract top-notch speakers. Lee Bollinger, the President of Columbia, will present a lecture entitled "Academic Freedom." The Cardozo Lecture is a high-profile annual event, and there should be plenty of New York's elite in the hall. The event is next Wednesday at 7 p.m. and is free, though you may want to call to reserve a place if you intend to go.
