It Takes One to Know One

Last September, Senator Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) issued a statement attacking Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry:
"Once again Senator Kerry has flip flopped on Iraq ... America needs a president who leads confidently on the firm footing of principle, not a politician who trips on his own ever-changing philosophies."
Well, it turns out that Coleman knows a little about flip-flopping.

In its Feb. 2 issue, The Hill newspaper came up with a select list of flip-flopping senators and congressmen -- those who had sponsored three different bills in the last Congress but later withdrew their support for these same bills. The list includes the following:*
Senator Jim Bunning (R-Ky.)
Senator Norm Coleman (R-Minn.)
Cong. Lincoln Davis (D-Tenn.)
Cong. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.)
Cong. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.)
Cong. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.)
Cong. John Sullivan (R-Okla.)
Most of these House and Senate members declined to respond to inquiries from The Hill. But a spokeswoman for Norton insists that the congresswoman's name was mistakenly listed as a co-sponsor for two of the three bills in question.

* - This list included one congressman who is no longer in the House: Brad Carson (D-Okla.).
