Three months isn't a long time, but it was long enough for John McCain's attitude toward Donald Rumsfeld to change significantly.
Last November, as Rummy resigned, McCain said:
"While Secretary Rumsfeld and I have had our differences, he deserves Americans' respect and gratitude for his many years of public service. He has mine."
But
yesterday in South Carolina, candidate McCain said:
"I think that Donald Rumsfeld will go down in history as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history."
And this is the guy who deserved our "respect and gratitude"?
