Shooting Down Moot Points

The short, humorless and perpetually cranky Gary Bauer is upset over the White House's talking points on Miers, especially the part where they say their critics are guilty of elistism and sexism.
"It doesn't matter if there are five men and four women or any other combination. All that should matter to us is if at least five of them, no matter what their sex, understand that nothing in our Constitution requires us to permit a million unborn children to be destroyed every year, that our founding document doesn't mandate same-sex 'marriage,' and that 'under God' must be removed from our Pledge of Allegiance....[it is] disturbing that so many on the far left are celebrating the nomination [of Harriet Miers]. I just finished reading an article in a leading homosexual rights newspaper in Dallas, Texas. The article is filled with glowing praise for Miss Miers from homosexual rights extremists."
Uh-oh, the gays like her! This can't be good! There's an idea-- the fastest way twist the GOP's collective panties would be if HRC, NGLTF, NARAL, People for the American Way, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, etc. all got together and had a press conference expressing that they like Harriet, they really like her!

Gary, I have news for you, the constitution doesn't say a lot about a lot of things. For starters, it doesn't address the issue of marriage at all, that has always been the providence of the states. As for abortion, there's nothing about it in there either, it's a relatively modern debate about when life begins, of which people have many different opinions. However, the constitution does say something about the government not establishing religion, you might have heard of it, it's called the First Amendment. I know you personally like to concentrate on the free exercise clause, but before that is the bit that says "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." I know you don't think that applies to your religion because yours is obviously the right one, but it does.

I really do Gary Bauer. I want to bear his impish, rodent-faced children. He is by far one of my very favorite demagogues.
