Demagogue

Politicians are among the best at delivering empty statements, and this would appear to be another example. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) was quoted thusly by the Associated Press:

"Everything I know about Ms. Miers is good."

The key words seem to be "[e]verything I know," which isn't necessarily saying very much.

Unless President Bush or a senior staffer at the White House has given Specter a detailed rundown of Miers' judicial philosophy, then the Pennsylvania Republican probably knows little more than the rest of us -- she's the White House's deputy chief of staff, former president of the Texas State Bar, etc.
