When We Say Jump, Holland Says How High

Can you imagine an American ambassador to a foreign country issuing anything like this statement?

At least the "many Americans who have expressed their legitimate concerns to my Embassy" have learned something from this episode, to wit the fact that Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Though I think their time might be better spent expressing their legitimate concerns to the ambassador from another of our allies in the War on Terror. With due regard for the horror that her disappearance must be causing Natalee's family and friends, I suggest that Uzbekistan's torturing and killing of political dissidents is a more grave problem for the United States than is the Aruban government's inability to find Natalee or, as is sadly more likely, her remains.

Meanwhile, the Dutch are learning to emulate the American sense of proportion.
Of course, we are all working closely together. The Royal Netherlands Marines, the Joint Dutch Aruban Investigation Team, the Netherlands Forensic Institute, the Netherlands Coast Guard and Dutch legal experts are assisting the local authorities in Aruba together with US authorities, including the Department of State and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
