The image of the Netherlands abroad is a caricature, says Minister Bot of Foreign Affairs: a country of easy drugs and sex, full of sauntering linguists and brilliant tulip fields.Sounds pretty appealing, doesn't it? Sadly, it's not true. At least not according to the country's leading "serious" newspaper, NRC Handelsblad.
Time for an update. NRC Handelsblad's supplement The Netherlands sketches an image of the Netherlands in 2005, focusing on education, business and health care and including features on the Royal House and Dutch standards and values. Is the Netherlands sick again? 'No, the country only has a cold.'
