It's nothing special to point out that Pastor Fred Phelps is crazy-- for many years now he and his scary family have been wandering the nation with their vicious, ugly signs and protesting the very existence of gay people. However, lately their signs have been getting worse-- such as "Thank God for 9/11"-- and they are expanding their beyond protests beyond the funerals of gay people like Matthew Shepherd. Not only are Fred & his family making even less sense than usual but they are making quite a few more new enemies-- ones who carry guns.

Westboro Baptist...has protested or is planning protests of other public funerals of soldiers from Michigan, Alabama, Minnesota, Virginia and Colorado. A protest is planned for July 11 at Dover Air Force Base, the military base where war dead are transported before being sent on to their home states.

No, they're not gay soldiers. The explanation is twisted, yet fascinating in its utter lack of coherence.

A flier on the Web site of Pastor Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church claims God killed Cpl. Carrie French with an improvised explosive device in retaliation against the United States for a bombing at Phelps' church six years ago.

"Our attitude toward what's happening with the war is the Lord is punishing this evil nation for abandoning all moral imperatives that are worth a dime," Phelps said.

They're picking a fight with the U.S. military at the funerals of dead soldiers?!??! Even for them that is beyond craaaazy.

I really think it's time for the nice men with the special long-armed jackets to come and take Fred and his whole nutty family away.
