The Republican Party was originally known as the Whigs. And should the GOP ever consider changing its name in the future, I know the perfect name – unfortunately, it’s taken. It’s the United Kingdom's Official Monster Raving Looney Party.

Believe or not, this is a real political party that fielded roughly 20 candidates for parliamentary seats in today’s British elections.

One of the OMRLP’s candidates for the House of Commons, John Cartwright, called himself the “Shadow Minister for Chocolate.” Bert Priest, the OMRLP candidate in the district of Wyre Forest, managed to win a few hundred votes.

And the OMRLP’s slogan? “Vote for Insanity. You Know It Makes Sense.”
