Refugees In, Refugees Out

More than 3,000 Congolese have fled into Rwanda in recent weeks to escape violence in the eastern part of the country.

I guess the good news is that they are more or less filling the space left by the 1,000 Rwandans who fled to Uganda and the 600 who fled to Burundi out of fear of imprisonment imposed by Rwanda's Gacaca trial system, created to deal with the thousands of lower-level genocide cases.

And perhaps it is also good news that those who have been fleeing to Burundi and Uganda might be joining various rebel groups in the area, so that they can eventually fight their way back home.

Things are really looking up in Central Africa these days.
