Demagogue

Call me a romantic idealist, but I really enjoyed reading Bob Herbert's column today on how far we've drifted as a nation from the days of FDR.

It's pretty telling that I fear being labeled a romantic or an idealist for thinking that this quotation is dead on the mark:

The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.
