The Coalition for Darfur

Feddie from Southern Appeal and I are joining together to form a new blog dedicated to raising money for Save the Children's work in Darfur.

Despite our differing political views, we both agree that more needs to be done to help the millions facing starvation and disease at the hand of the Janjaweed and Sudanese government. As such, we hope to use our blogs and blog contacts to get others involved in a coalition to raise whatever we can for Save the Children.

We chose Save the Children based on the recommendation of Eric Reeves, whose "Unnoticed Genocide" op-ed first alerted many of us to the situation and whose regular analysis pieces have been absolutely vital to anyone seeking to understand the true scope and nature of the crisis.

The UN and the rest of the international community have failed to act to stem the violence and provide for those in need. As such, Feddie and I ask you to join us in playing a small role in attempting to help the victims of this genocide.

I will be sending an e-mail invitation out to those on the left side of the blogsphere and Feddie will be targeting those on the right. We are going to try to reach as many bloggers as possible but if you are a blogger and do not receive an invitation to join us, it was simply an oversight and we hope that you are not offended.

All that is required of coalition members is to submit their e-mail address and their blog URL to mailto:coalitionfordarfur@gmail.com After that, we will send out one post a week about the genocide and the coalition that we ask you to post on your blog.

You can read more about the coalition here. We hope that you will join us and consider making a donation to Save the Children.
