For the good of families, children and society, I support a constitutional amendment to protect the institution of marriage. While it is his usual empty rhetoric, I can't help but go off here a little.
Um, excuse me, but what the fuk? While he may try to restrict legal marriage to heterosexuals, why does he have to totally deny the very existence of the millions of same-sex couples (both with and without children) in the process? His message is loud and clear-- not only are we not allowed to get married we're also not allowed to call or consider ourselves to be "families."
So, what does he and his blindly bigoted brethren propose we call ourselves? And if we do consider ourselves to be a family-- as my wife and I certainly do-- doesn't that make us a danger to ourselves and others? Doesn't that make us terrorists? How many other minority populations are such a magnificant threat to the American family and society that they require a constitutional amendment to curtail their power and deny their right to exist?
By the way, did anyone else noticed that he didn't use the "t" word last night? He often prefaces his support for an anti-gay marriage amendment with a throw away line about tolerance. I suppose that is no longer important now that the election is over.
