The Latest Video Diversion

Imagine a web-based video game in which players are asked to exterminate all people of Asian ethnicity from the United States. Gypsies -- or the Roma (as they prefer to be called) -- represent roughly the same percentage of Hungary's population as Asian-Americans do in the U.S.

The NY Times (via Reuters) reports:
Gypsy groups have forced a Hungarian Web site to remove a game called Gypsy Action in which players were invited to ethnically cleanse the country of Gypsies, the Roma Press Center in Budapest said.

The game offered players a variety of firearms to use on the Gypsy, or Roma, population and, if they managed to wipe out the entire population, the country's color on a map turned white, the center said. Gypsy groups and other organizations put the number of Gypsies in Hungary at 400,000 to 500,000.
