But Everyone Thought He Had Nukes

One of the lamer excuses for the lying/incompetent (take your pick) march to war was that we weren't the only ones to lie/screw it up. "Everybody" thought Saddam had nuclear weapons, or "weapons of mass destruction," or at least "WMD programs."

Any number of people have pointed out how deceitful this claim is, for a number of reasons. The two biggest are: (1) It's not true; lots of people didn't think there was decent evidence of WMD programs; and (2) Most other people, even if they thought Saddam had programs, were telling us that we should not start a war until the inspectors could find out for sure.

I don't know that these points have sunk in at all; the administration's false spin may be winning the day. So here's another attempt in the spirit of pictures being worth 1000 words.

I don't know when this ran in print, but it was posted on the Web in February 2003, shortly after Shrub's lying State of the Union about British intelligence--and a month before the war.
